Question:
Could the following procedure be considered to improve the consistency of the method used for the electric strength test following the spillage test of sub-clause 15.102? The connector system is placed on a metal foil sheet on the bench surface.
After the prescribed amount of water is deposited through the 8mm tube onto the connector surface, the electrical strength test shall be applied as soon as practical. Immediately following the deposition of the water, metal foil is smoothed over the accessible surface of connector, avoiding contact with any earth connection by means of a hole or gap in the foil. The application of the metal foil is carried out in such a manner, as to minimize any disturbance to water on the surface of the connector.
The following test voltages are then applied as follows:
a) 2500V a.c. between live parts and the metal foil over the surface of the connector
b) 2500V a.c.between live parts and the metal foil surface under the appliance base
c) 1250V a.c. Between live parts and the earth connector
Decision:
The above test procedure including the test voltages is confirmed.
