Question:
A sealed lighting chain where the end part(s) are fixed by gluing withstands the mechanical test of
20.7.14 before heating test and endurance test (this is the order which is specified). But when the chain
starts to heat during the heating test and the endurance test, the glue might start to melt and cause the end
part to become loose easily. At the moment our interpretation of 20.7.14 is that only a visual check shall
be carried out without applying any external forces to the end part(s) (moving of chain is allowed).
Because we have found cases where the glue starts to melt at about 50°C, we propose the following:
- immediately after the endurance test duration at the same temperature, mechanical tests of § 20.7.14
(without the additional test) shall be carried out but only once for 1 minute (not 45 times); or
- end part(s) of a separate test sample shall be subjected to heating in an oven with a temperature as
measured temperature of the end part(s) in the heating test of normal operation + 20°C for 240 h.
Immediately after 240 h, the end part(s) shall be subjected to the mechanical tests of § 20.7.14 (without
the additional test) shall be carried out but only once for 1minute (not 45 times).
Decision:
The fixing of the end part on the tube shall be visually inspected after the endurance test.
