Measuring Circuit Terminals (Amd 2)
5.1.5
61010-1(ed.1);am1;am2

Standard:
IEC 61010-1:1990
+A1:1992+A2:1995
Sub clause:
5.1.5
Sheet n. 297

Subject:
Measuring Circuit Terminals
(Amd. 2)
Key words:
Terminals
Marking
Decision taken by
ETF3 and confirmed
by CTL at its 38th
meeting, in Toronto
Question:
Is it acceptable for a measuring equipment to have its sensing terminals marked:
“CAT II (600V)
CAT III (300V)”
Decision:
Marking with both categories with the relevant voltages as shown is acceptable.
Explanation:
The standard allows operation under different categories provided the isolation is suitable for
the voltages concerned. In this case, it is possible to mark both categories since the
requirements for Cat II at 600V are the same as those for Cat III at 300V.
