Question:
It is allowed to add decorative parts with flammability class HB to the outside of the fire
enclosure of, for example, a computer. Consider the situation that the computer is, then,
installed inside the fire enclosure of bigger equipment. According to the standard, parts
inside a fire enclosure of the bigger equipment must meet the requirements of clauses 4.4.3.2
and 4.4.3.3: all materials inside a fire enclosure must be of flammability class min V-2 or
HF-2. It is not clear whether the decorative HB material on the outside of the computer is
exempted from this requirement since the computer has been approved separately
Decision:
HB material inside a fire enclosure is not allowed, reference clause 4.7.3.4 in the 3rd ed.
