Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source? K$ ]* C% T( b5 m4 T
Decision: Yes, provided that:/ |$ s, P( I5 P9 S! m K) R D
(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN
* ~6 }3 S$ k: q }61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 13 I/ |1 p* Q& U* m- R
mm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser( @, u6 g0 u O6 P- Q- O& m% X
products). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems6 x% E; m- q0 s5 v! c" p8 S
for lighting purposes without protection." I5 [" \$ }' e/ k% J
(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as

) c0 C+ W( |2 y+ p(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested
' Q8 Y7 }0 x- d/ a, E6 Xaccording to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.. j$ O( H6 N, Y; X0 m8 T I
(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on# Q! m( T3 V( K. S _6 q
the instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit* J6 g% \, q6 [$ w+ k& O
correctly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type1 m+ @% z1 [' X& @
and the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can
2 d. l' \( z( }& p8 O9 Zbe three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the4 u1 z1 u* m2 z! R0 ^1 e
luminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the
1 ^& h& U& ~' i' Iluminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be
& h, D/ ~) f# }carried out as required in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with, \. M& Z8 }$ \' z3 Y4 [% h' N( j* o
the appropriate control gear.
