Question: Is it possible to issue approvals on luminaires provided with LEDs light source?
4 p1 f0 N0 `) r g, NDecision: Yes, provided that:
: r! `) A( x' D. Y, b! G(1) The LED circuit is verified according to IEC/EN 61347-2-2 (*) or IEC/EN( W L( H/ |% K# v+ A
61347-2-11. If the laser emits radiation in the wavelength range from 180 nm to 1
8 {5 n9 U( F& m+ bmm, the LED shall also be tested according to IEC/EN 60825 –1 (Safety of laser7 ?7 m, U& A& x8 e7 S. C
products). Only LEDs classified as Class 1 lasers can be used without problems
+ O* n p7 {, E9 S" |" j! Y7 _for lighting purposes without protection.
$ O! a, c2 F( A& L(2) The thermal tests required in Section 12 of IEC/EN 60598-1 are carried out as- {& D. Y/ W3 Z0 a# \
follows:+ a/ v3 Y- Y# s; i# b
(a) Luminaires (Class I or II) with built-in control gear can be tested( p! e' ]) O6 T8 t% u. \" J
according to the requirements of IEC/EN 60598-2-6.! E' y$ a" L6 V, U; K7 N2 u; G
(b) For Class III luminaires, the luminaires manufacturer shall provide on
9 K- j/ J7 s7 X: _, t0 qthe instructions all the necessary information to supply the LED circuit1 R M- G& C* ]0 U9 E8 J: K
correctly or shall inform the Testing Station about the trade mark, the type
: u7 M7 u+ r* U- w& P" S; f0 nand the technical characteristics of the appropriate control gear. There can
; D" w. R2 u) ~9 R$ C* b. nbe three different control gears: the type and the trade mark indicated by the+ `2 Y h: x- _% U7 o' F
luminaire manufacturer; an electronic control gear clearly specified on the, J$ i: a( G+ s6 W: ~ _
luminaire instructions; a ferromagnetic control gear. The tests shall be H) R. e4 g3 F
carried out as required in Section 12 according to IEC/EN 60598-2-6 with B7 N8 t! I* R
the appropriate control gear.. S: X, a! M4 O: J+ b# I8 V$ J* u% D
(*) When IEC/EN 61347-2-13 will be published, it will takes over IEC/EN# D! G" \ u q2 T
61347-2-2.
