0 I; `& S; p' W; mQuestion: The appliance for purifying water is equipped with an UV lamp (with its
3 G4 W* J7 W/ k- z" caccessories). The unit can be used with or without a constant water flowing (in
; x% T! w$ u3 q0 d8 G" M% l0 daccordance with the manual instructions). What should be the temperature of: P; a) f( h: i% W. r* A! Z
the water during the thermal tests?
0 u; `. S$ X3 ~6 }, S4 f. PDecision: The applicable standard is IEC/EN 60335-1. The thermal tests have to be; \+ N( e- d6 J% A6 v1 q$ B8 g
carried out according to clause 11 (heating) and clause 19 (abnormal
! R: }7 D H, m7 V2 Q, ~conditions) of IEC/EN 60335-1. If according to the manual instructions the
1 P% n( W3 m f1 p0 ?appliance can be used without water flowing, we have to consider this situation
" a& I" p$ C* u! g4 _as worst case: all tests have to be performed without water flowing. At the! p+ S8 I% [- V
beginning of the tests, the water shall be at room temperature (25°C). If the
5 B5 \" j m# y, O- f: m _appliance is provided for use with water flowing only, the heating test (clause' v: H& `! @$ a7 n, a
11) shall be started with water at room temperature (25°C) but flowing. For the* k5 N1 E, ?9 K- k3 U$ |8 m+ x; Z
abnormal conditions test (clause 19), the water flowing has to be stopped8 ]7 {0 v, t! I9 C1 r) W( y9 }' t
unless there is a monitoring circuit to switch off the appliance in case of water# a2 }3 n ?* s0 ]1 S) p
flow interruption. At the beginning of the test the water shall be at room9 v5 @: h! b: @6 u8 J
temperature (25°C).
