Decision: In principle apply the requirements given in IEC/EN 60825-1. However in order) p1 R: [, X0 P8 s" U
to avoid expensive measurements, the luminaires provided with LEDs should be
! k( b8 d& p xtreated in the following:
# o+ P L) e% r- If the light intensity is low, i.e. from a conventional LED for indication or signalling5 G( H3 E- M( U' [. g5 n
purposes, the LED is most likely comparable with a laser of Class 1 according to( ]. f, p% B' c& H
IEC/EN 60825-1 and consequently there is no need measurements. During the
% Z; ^: d+ S; `' j. hjudgement the covers, optics and similar, which can be removed by hand, shall be/ d/ C; v; Z4 y+ a
removed. In the TRF it is indicated that the light intensity has been judged to comply
Y, y& f; O+ l9 U% A8 T% {' v$ f9 mwith the limits given for Class 1 lasers in IEC/EN 60825-1 and no measurements are2 L" j: R- j5 s
made.
! N3 P5 N7 v7 S$ c [- t# a/ Q- In all other cases the luminaire manufacturer shall be asked to provide a declaration! R7 ?+ |$ k: U2 ]" {
based on relevant tests (e.g. from the LEDs manufacturer) showing that the radiation
: e/ d$ R8 g0 g& tfrom the LED module will not exceed the values given in IEC/EN 60825-1 for Class 1& R+ j# M$ s. q2 J& e% h, u& v
or1M lasers with or without optics. In the TRF it is noted that judgements have been

. o$ W" T- y/ K- If such a declaration cannot be provided or if we are insecure on how to judge, the7 s! u8 b p! M! u
measurements given in IEC/EN 60825-1 shall be performed. In the TRF it is indicated
& _# W2 o1 k2 ~# ethat measurements have been performed. For luminaires containing light sources
! J; @% \/ A% T- M( M! _providing radiation according to Class 2 lasers, the luminaire shall be treated as a laser* @* W0 n0 g* ^3 ?& o' H9 g
source according to IEC/EN 60825-1 and comply with the requirements given in that

Information about the action taken in relation to the LED radiation should be given in the4 ?# \7 S* l/ }1 r' O6 r
